Jackson - LifeWays is offering the Michigan Recovery Incentives Program at its Jackson location. The program supports people living with opioid and stimulant use disorders (SUD). This program is an evidence-based treatment option that combines support and motivation. The program has been available for several months and continues to give individuals in Jackson new chances to stay engaged in their recovery journey with meaningful rewards.
A New Path Toward Recovery Support
The Recovery Incentives Program uses an approach called Contingency Management, which has been shown to increase treatment engagement and reduce substance use. Participants can earn up to $599 over 24-weeks by staying engaged in their recovery, attending appointments, and completing negative drug tests.
This program aligns closely with LifeWays’ mission of person-centered care. It offers individuals choices and empowers them to take meaningful steps forward in recovery.
“This program can help our clients meet their goals in recovery by empowering and encouraging them,” said Katelynn Miller, Recovery Incentive Supervisor at LifeWays.
For some, joining the program has been a deeply personal decision. “It was a personal choice motivated to overcome substance abuse. It is a structured and supportive program,” said Linda Partin, a program participant.

Why This Step in Jackson Matters
LifeWays brought the program to Jackson to expand access to effective substance use treatment.
“We have been looking for different ways to support our SUD clients. When this was presented to us, we knew we had to take the opportunity,” Katelynn explained. “I hope this program helps shine the light on LifeWays’ desire to support our clients and meet them where they are at.”
Participants agree that accountability has been one of the most valuable parts of the program. According to Destanie Pruden-Walling, a program participant, “The recovery incentive program has really helped me stay motivated and accountable in my recovery. Knowing I can earn money for clean drug screens not only supports me financially but also makes me feel proud of the progress I’m making. It’s a positive reminder that the hard work I’m putting in is paying off and keeps me focused on moving forward.”
Recovery Incentive Coordinator Kaily Enbody has seen this excitement first-hand. “The excitement that our participants have when they get their incentive… it can help with gas, groceries, toys for their kids, and additional bills, which relieves some stress. Plus, the pride they have when they come in is amazing to see.”

How the Journey Works
The program runs for 24-weeks:
• Weeks 1–12: Participants attend two in-office visits per week.
• Weeks 13–24: Participants attend one in-office visit per week.
Each visit includes a drug test. When the results are negative, participants earn incentives that increase over time. If a test is positive, participants still receive smaller incentives for attending appointments. This keeps them engaged and motivated.
All program visits and testing take place at LifeWays in Jackson, making support close to home and accessible.
“Accountability,” said Linda, when asked what has been the most helpful part of the program so far. For Destanie, it was the peace of mind that came with the structure: “Knowing that, if someone were to call CPS and make a report about me, I would have documented negative drug screens proving my sobriety. I have been able to pay my bills with the money I have earned.”
Kaily noted that the pride participants feel is just as important as the financial incentives. “These participants have put in work, and so this is an additional way to boost their confidence,” she said. “Some people only engage in the Recovery Incentives Program, while others combine it with therapy, case management, peer support, or psychiatry. It’s their choice on how much support they want, and if they need additional resources, we have them. There is no judgment in where they are starting – we are genuinely wanting them to succeed and will play whatever role is needed to help on their recovery journey.”
The Impact Along the Way
LifeWays believes this program will make a meaningful difference in the lives of participants. It will also have a positive impact across the Jackson community. “I hope that any of our participants in this program are positively impacted and find that they have been supported in their recovery journey,” Katelynn said.
Participants themselves echo that sentiment. “It’s got potential benefits, and structured support, and you are rewarded,” said Linda. Destanie added, “What do you have to lose? No matter what, you earn money. Why not give it a shot?”
